Selection Process
High School Selection
The admission process varies widely by academic institution. We recommend applying to your high school(s) of preference at the earliest opportunity, allowing for sufficient time to navigate the application/admission process.
Submitting the Scholarship Application
Access the scholarship application forms from the Kertist A. Augustus Foundation, Inc. website at www.kertistaugustusfoundation.org.
We generally recommend working on the application over a period of several days if not weeks. Strong applications require research and revision. Most successful applicants report writing and rewriting several drafts.
You can either work on your application within the online system (Microsoft Word version (fillable)) work in another program and copy your responses into our form or PDF version (legible handwritten submission).
Once the application is completed and ready for submission, you can either print the entire packet and deliver to the Waterfront and Allied Workers Union Office located at 43 Hillsborough Street, Roseau, Dominica, or via email submission to admin@kertistaugustusfoundation.org upon which you a confirmation of receipt will be issued.
All applications must be received no later than 19 July 2024.
Application Processing
The Foundation will begin processing applications on 20 July 2024. After this point, you cannot make edits to your materials and additional items will not be accepted unless an extension has been granted.
Members of the staff will individually check each application to ensure it is complete and legible. We will also review all supporting materials to ensure they meet our requirements. If there is an issue with any of your materials or application, you will be contacted to correct the issue.
Selection Board Committee
Once all applications have been reviewed and certified complete, the Foundation will convene our Selection Board Committee (SBC) on 22 July 2024 to review applications and select Finalists
Prior to meeting, SBC Members receive a series of applications that they must read and score following the guidance and criteria established by the Foundation. Once all the applications have been read, scored and tabulated, the group convenes to select the top applicants as Finalists. These applicants are selected based on their records, as well as their likelihood of success in high school. Many of the applicants are competitive with strong packets. As a result, the distinction between an applicant who advances and one who does not can be very small.
The SBC will review the packets of the finalists, deliberate, and select the Scholars to be awarded the scholarship.
Notification
Once the recommendations of the SBC have been received, the Foundation will contact the Scholars to inform them they have been selected as a scholarship awardee.
Awardees will receive their results via physical letter to the permanent address provided in the application, email, and/or telephonically. Every effort is made to notify prior to the public posting in.
