Honoring Kertist A Augustus’ Legacy by Empowering Dominica’s Youth

Scholarships & Funding for Children of Active WAWU Members

The Kertist A Augustus Foundation in collaboration with the Dominica Waterfront and Allied Workers Union (WAWU) sees higher education as a catalyst, an agent of change for individuals, families, communities, and nations. We envision a community that recognizes the importance of educational attainment and assures positive educational outcomes are accessible to all regardless of economic circumstance.

Scholarship for Students

We award multiple scholarships each year to eligible WAWU families for supporting their children with textbooks, uniforms, supplies, transportation and other costs (eg. exams, tutoring) related to ensuring success for the student. The goal is to relieve students (prospective and previously enrolled) and their families from a significant part of the huge financial commitments of higher education.

Promoting the Mission of WAWU

The foundation seeks to (1) foster an environment of learning to (2) collaborate between philanthropy and the labor (or union) movement by (3) pooling resources to build a common agenda and (4) investing those resources into new forms of organizing, innovative approaches that broaden alliances and (5) energizing community-labor alliances to meet the foreseeable challenges of the future.

“We cannot give all the good that the world needs, but the world needs all the good that we can give.”
